The Ceylon Institute of Builders (CIOB), International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB) and Building Economics and Management Research Unit (BEMRU)  jointly organised  the CIOB World Construction Conference 2012 under the theme, “Global Challenges in Construction Industry” from  28th – 30th June 2012 at Colombo, Sri Lanka.

As an event where global experts and students in construction gathered  to exchange views and findings,  discussing relevant and important topics. The theme of ‘Global Challenges in Construction’ was aptly chosen as Sri Lanka, having come out of a civil war, was poised to further develop its infrastructure. In having understood the need to position itself  in the global market, it questioned itself  ‘How should we meet the inevitable challenges?’. All participants from around the world looked forward to identifying challenges and understanding how to face them: unraveling the answers.

In acting as a platform for knowledge sharing, it also offered Sri Lankan professionals and academics to meet specialists from overseas. In conducting the event,  CIOB, the professional body for builders in Sri Lanka, who work to inspire, educate and train builders and professional in Sri Lanka, received international exposure which they deserve. The event was also strengthened by the research excellence of its organizing partner, the Department of Building, Economic and Management of the University of Moratuwa; who too  stood to gain much in the academic field.
